You

Wu Chenjun Translated by Zhang Ziqing

In my dream I walked by your side
But I could hardly reach you
Nor could touch your hand, hair
As well as your eye holy and penetrating
You, a young lady, noble and pure
A beautiful shadow dispersing and gathering
In the air. From the back of haystack
To its front, we started our walk
On a road dotted with straw stalks
We flew from this end of bridge
To its another end across the river
Through the cloudy sky over factories,
Three rows of old houses with chimneys
Fields with dead birds & dead mice

Only in my dream did I see you
And your beautiful body. Otherwise
I'd never be clear about you
As well as the characteristics of your body
Oh, music, we got together, you & me
But we could not touch each other
Oh, you , my dear
When you were getting near to me
Why did you go away immediately?

Well, a sweet reverie induced by
A sweet lady's literary works
